WASHINGTON—Important onsite information for press is now available for Fall Meeting 2019, where more than 25,000 attendees from around the globe are expected to assemble for the largest worldwide conference in the Earth and space sciences. The meeting runs from Monday through Friday, 9-13 December, at the Moscone Center, 747 Howard St., San Francisco, California.

Online press registration is available and will remain open throughout the meeting. To register, visit the Fall Meeting Media Center and click on the “Register Now” button. For eligibility information, please visit the Press Registration Eligibility Requirements page.

1. Onsite press registration and badge pickup

Please note that the locations of the press room, press conference room, and quiet rooms have changed since the last Fall Meeting in San Francisco. New locations for 2019 are below.

To expedite the registration process and avoid long lines on Monday, 9 December, we encourage all members of the press to register online through the Fall Meeting Media Center and pick up their badges on Sunday, 8 December. You may register online throughout the duration of Fall Meeting. As always, press registration is complimentary. Onsite press registration and badge pickup information is below.

  • If you registered online and were mailed your badge: If you have your badge in hand, you can pick up a badge lanyard and other materials at the press registration counter, located in the lobby of Moscone North, or in the press room, located in room 305-306 on the third floor of Moscone South. Entrances to both Moscone North and Moscone South are on Howard Street between 3rd and 4th Press registration counter hours are listed below. Press room hours are in section #2 below.
  • If you registered online but don’t have your badge: Go to the press registration counter, located in the lobby of Moscone North, to print your badge. You should bring your press registration approval e-mail. Press registration counter hours are below. You can also print your badge any “print your badge” station.
  • If you are registering onsite: Go to the press registration counter, located in the lobby of Moscone North, fill out an onsite registration form, and present your press credentials. Sunday, 8 December: 12:00 – 6:30 p.m.
Monday, 9 December: 6:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, 10 December: 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Wednesday, 11 December through Friday, 13 December: 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

2. Room locations and information

Please note that the locations of the press room, press conference room, and quiet rooms have changed since the last Fall Meeting in San Francisco. New locations for 2019 are below.

Press room
Location: Third level of Moscone South, room 305-306
Hours: Open daily at 7:30 a.m. Monday, December 9 through Friday, December 13. The room closes daily at 6:30 p.m. except for Friday, December 13, when it closes at 2:00 p.m.

The press room provides working space for press registrants, including computer terminals and printers, Wi-Fi and internet hard drops, electrical outlets and space for working and socializing. Approved press registrants should check-in and pick up their green press ribbons in the press room upon arrival.

Meals: Some meals and light refreshments will be provided in the Press Room. Below is a schedule of meal and snack times throughout the week:

Monday through Thursday:
Hot breakfast:                 7:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Morning coffee:              10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Lunch:                               12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Afternoon coffee:           3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Friday:
Continental breakfast:   7:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Coffee: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

For PIOs: Public information officers can disseminate paper press releases and related documentation at Fall Meeting. We recommend 50 copies of printed materials. The easiest way to get these materials to the press room is to give them to one of your scientists or bring them yourself with instructions to have them delivered to the AGU Press Room from Monday, December 9 onward.

Hours: Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Quiet rooms
Three quiet rooms are available for press registrants to use throughout the meeting. Press registrants can reserve quiet rooms through this online calendar any time before or during the meeting. Reservations are given in 30-minute increments for up to one hour at a time, and are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Locations:
Quiet Room 1: Moscone South, room 309; Has two round tables with 10 chairs each and a blocked off area for filming with a table and three chairs.
Quiet Room 2: Moscone South, alcove 305; Has one round table with 10 chairs, an internet hard drop and a phone.
Quiet Room 3: Moscone South, alcove 308; Has one round table with 10 chairs, an internet hard drop and a phone.

Hours:
Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Friday, 8:00 a.m – 2:00 p.m.

3. Media resources

Media resources include an online newsroom with press releases and other materials, tip sheets of potentially newsworthy presentations, a tool for finding and listing experts at the meeting, and a form to reserve quiet rooms for interviews. Reporters and PIOs can access these resources through the Fall Meeting Media Center.

Tip sheets
AGU’s Media Tip Sheets contain lists of potentially newsworthy research presentations selected by AGU’s public information team. Reporters can view or download tip sheets from the Online Newsroom or pick up hard copies in the Fall Meeting press room. Tip sheets are organized by date and by topic. Topics include climate change, climate solutions, Earth history, health, ice, life, natural hazards, California, pollution, and space.

Online newsroom
For journalists: In the Online Newsroom, journalists can find press releases and press conference materials, including PowerPoint presentations, images, videos, and scientific papers as available.

For public information officers: PIOs can now upload press releases, tip sheets, and other materials with to the Online Newsroom via the Press Item Uploader. PIOs can upload materials at any time before or during the meeting. PIOs can also schedule items to publish at a specific date and time.

Find experts
For journalists: On the Find Experts page, reporters can search a list of PIOs who have scientific experts in various topic areas attending the meeting and available for interviews.

For public information officers: PIOs can let reporters know if scientific experts in various topic areas from their institutions are attending the meeting and available for interviews on the Find Experts page. On this page, PIOs can share their contact information with reporters and provide descriptions of the experts they have available in which topic areas.

4. Fall Meeting App

The Fall Meeting mobile app is now available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play. The app allows you to browse the scientific program, plan and sync your schedule between devices, receive event alerts and stay connected on social media. The app also has floor plans of the Moscone Center to help you get around.

To get the app, search for “AGU Events” in the Apple App Store or Google Play and download the app called “AGU Events.” When you open the AGU Events app after downloading it, select “2019 AGU Fall Meeting” and download the Fall Meeting-specific app.
