WASHINGTON — The press event schedule for AGU’s Annual Meeting 2024 (#AGU24) is now live. AGU24 will be held 9-13 December at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. Download the AGU Events app or browse the full scientific program online to learn more about the breadth of programming at AGU24.
Staff journalists, freelance journalists, student journalists and press officers can register as press attendees up to and throughout the meeting. Additional information for press can be found in the AGU24 Online Press Center and in previous media advisories.

Press event schedule
Press events will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. EST, Monday, 9 December through Thursday, 12 December. Browse the full Event Schedule for additional information, including event descriptions and participants. A press event schedule-at-a-glance is below.
All press conferences and roundtables will be hybrid, taking place in person and broadcast via Zoom Webinar. Media must be registered for the meeting as press in order to attend, in person or virtually.
All press conferences and roundtables will be recorded and uploaded to AGU’s YouTube channel on the same day as the event. Slides and other materials from press presentations will be available in the Press Information Exchange on AGU Connect.
Note: The press conference schedule is subject to change before or during #AGU24. Press conferences may be added or dropped; their titles, emphases or participants may change. Updates, changes and additions to the press events schedule will be posted to the Events page, accessible from the AGU24 Online Press Center.

On-site press rooms and badge pick-up
The Press Rooms are in the Marriot Marquis, meeting level 3 (M3), which is downstairs from the ground level lobby. Enter through the main entrance on Massachusetts Avenue NW between 9th and 10th Streets NW and take the escalators down. A tunnel connects level M2 of the hotel to Concourse A at the southwest corner of the convention center (see map in conference app).
Dedicated wifi, working and discussion space, power and refreshments will be available in the main Press Room. A quiet working room is set aside for journalists to work away from the main press room activity. An interview room can be reserved in half-hour increments from AGU staff in the main press room.
Registered press may print meeting badges at the press kiosk on M3, Monday – Wednesday, 9 – 11 December, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and at main registration in Hall D of the convention center outside of those hours. Check in at the main Press Room, “Judiciary Square,” on M3 to pick up media credentials.
Press room hours:
- Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Accessing press events
Press events will be held in the press area on meeting level 3 of the Mariott Marquis (M3) (map available in the AGU Events mobile app). Members of the press must be registered with a press badge to access these events. On arrival, press should first go to the press registration kiosk on M3 to pick up their badges, then proceed to the main press room (Marriott room “Judiciary Square”) to get a green press ribbon.
All press conferences and roundtables will be broadcast via Zoom Webinar, with password-protected Zoom links available on the Press Events schedule. Passwords will be provided to registered press.
Media workshops are in-person-only, but the lesson materials and instruction recordings will be made available through the AGU24 Press Information Exchange. Remote reporters are invited to reach out to the workshop organizers (listed in the event schedule) to arrange a virtual session.

Press information exchange
Registered journalists and public information officers can use the AGU24 Press Information Exchange discussion board on AGU Connect to share press releases, multimedia and other meeting content and network. Log in using the same credentials you used to register for the conference.

Scientific program and app
New for AGU24, Plenaries and the Honors Ceremony will be the only livestreamed science events. (Press conferences and roundtables will be livestreamed.)
Oral scientific sessions, named lectures, and Union sessions will be recorded and will be viewable through the online conference platform and app. Recordings will be available within 72 hours of the event for viewing.
AGU24 will offer dedicated daily times for online poster engagement. In-person poster and eLightning sessions are not being recorded, but you can view select posters by accessing the online iPoster Gallery beginning in early December through February 2024.
All online poster presenters will have the opportunity to showcase their posters in the online iPoster Gallery via asynchronous, online discussions with attendees via self-scheduled video or chat times that will be listed in the online program and through direct messages.

Health, safety, and accessibility
COVID-19
AGU is not checking vaccination status for AGU24 attendance.
At this time, AGU highly recommends that masks be worn at all official indoor events to reduce the risk of transmission and illness related to COVID-19. A masking requirement may be implemented as we monitor recommendations from health officials and conditions as the meeting date approaches.

Accessibility
Press events will have closed captions enabled on Zoom, and most scientific sessions will have closed captioning. Information on the Walter Washington Convention Center’s accessibility and instructions for accessibility requests are here.

Safe AGU
The Safe AGU program was designed to promote safety and offer support to meeting attendees who may feel harassed, threatened or unsafe in any way when participating in AGU meetings. Volunteers and staff wearing Safe AGU buttons have been trained to assist those who experience unsafe or inappropriate behavior. They may be confidentially contacted to report issues concerns or to request help.
