NEW YORK — Experts in climate science, policy, and technology innovation will take the stage at Climate Week NYC to lay out the case for a set of ethics to guide responsible decisions at all levels of climate intervention (or geoengineering) research and deployment.

Media and the public are invited to attend “Ready, Set, Act: An Ethical Framework for a Rapidly Changing Climate” from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. EDT on 23 September on Governors Island at 309 Clayton Road, New York, NY 10004. The New York Climate Exchange is hosting this in-person-only event in partnership with AGU.

Increasingly, the world is considering climate intervention to tackle climate change and reduce emissions. Yet many of these approaches are untested, carrying risks for both their efficacy and consequences.

The panel will outline a new framework, to be officially launched next month, containing principles — compliance with policies, community engagement, considerations for justice, and transparent data sharing — that serve as a bedrock for ethical practices. They represent a collective commitment to an inclusive and ethically sound approach to climate intervention, research, and governance.

Registration for this event is free and will remain open through the morning of 23 September. Register here.

Find directions for travel to Governors Island here. During Climate Week, the ferry is free from lower Manhattan but requires a fee from Red Hook Brooklyn.

Panelists, who will be available for half an hour after the panel concludes, will be:
