Assistant Editor for Science and Innovation, Smithsonian.comMaya Wei-Haas was the 2015 AGU-sponsored AAAS Mass Media Fellow. She spent her summer as a science reporter at National Geographic, where she worked with online science editor Erika Engelhaupt whom AGU sponsored as a fellow in 2006.
Wei-Haas has a Ph.D. in geology from the Ohio State University where she studied how flame retardants found in many common household goods degrade in the Arctic. She has a B.S. in geology from Smith College.
