WASHINGTON, D.C. – AGU is pleased to announce that Lauren Lipuma has joined the society’s staff as Public Information Specialist/Science Writer. She will work with Nanci Bompey, AGU’s Public Information Manager, and with AGU’s science writing interns to communicate findings presented in AGU journals and meetings with the public, primarily through media.
Lauren was most recently a staff writer for EyeWorld and Ophthalmology Business, the official publications of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Lauren also held a position at Osa Conservation and worked for more than five years at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where she studied the immune response to infectious diseases and established a new lab devoted entirely to the study of the human microbiome.
Lauren holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Tulane University and is a board member of the DC Science Writers Association.
